CrewLink Union

Membership, support and a collective voice.

CrewLink Union is being developed as a membership and support offer for people who work shifts supporting others – in housing, care, events, production and community work.

Whatever stage you are at, the aim is simple: you shouldn't have to handle work issues completely on your own.

What this page is

  • An outline of the kind of support CrewLink Union wants to offer
  • Based on the idea of a modern union for shift-based work
  • Not yet a full legal or financial protection package

Reasons to join CrewLink Union

Every member will have their own reasons. The aim is that each person feels backed up, better informed and more connected than if they were on their own.

1. Advice when things go wrong

Work can be messy. CrewLink Union aims to signpost members to clear information and guidance when they are facing problems at work.

2. Information about your rights

Many people are unsure what is fair or allowed. Members will be able to access plain-English information about typical contracts and workplace rights.

3. Help preparing for conversations

From difficult meetings to raising a concern, CrewLink Union aims to give members tools and templates so they can plan what to say and how to say it.

4. Learning and development

Good training can change everything. Over time, membership will link more directly with training, skills and progression opportunities.

5. Community and connection

Shift work can feel isolating. The long-term goal is for members to be able to share experience, ideas and solutions with people in similar roles.

6. A collective voice

Where patterns and issues keep coming up, CrewLink Union can gather themes and, over time, look at how to raise them more formally with employers and systems.

What CrewLink Union aims to include

The final offer will depend on membership numbers, partnerships and legal advice. The list below is an honest picture of what we are working towards – not a promise of benefits today.

  • Step-by-step checklists for raising concerns

Collective feedback

  • Tools to share what is working and what is not
  • Ways to highlight patterns across services
  • Input into where CrewLink Union should focus

Future representation offers

  • Looking at partnerships with specialist providers
  • Making sure any offers are realistic and clear

How much will membership cost?

CrewLink Union will use a simple, sliding-scale membership model so that people who earn less are not asked to pay the same as those on higher incomes.

Example – lower earnings

Small monthly fee

  • For people working part-time or on lower incomes
  • Access to core information and member content
  • Inclusion in CrewLink Union member decisions

Example – standard earnings

Moderate monthly fee

  • For people working more regular hours
  • Full access to member content and tools
  • Participation in future union structures

Example – higher earnings

Higher monthly fee

  • For higher-paid roles and senior positions
  • Same access to tools and content
  • Recognises greater ability to contribute

These are examples only, inspired by the idea that contributions should reflect income. Actual figures, discounts and any special rates will be published before membership goes live.

Questions & next steps

CrewLink Union is in development. The questions below are a starting point – more details will be added as the legal structure and formal membership offer are finalised.

Is CrewLink Union already a formal union?

Not yet. Right now, CrewLink Union is a developing membership and support offer. The aim is to grow something that can sit alongside existing unions, not pretend to replace them.

Will members get individual legal representation?

In the early stages, the focus is on information, tools and signposting rather than direct legal representation. Any future representation offers will be clearly explained and properly resourced.

Who can join?

The priority will be people working shifts in housing, care, events, production and community roles. Over time, membership may open up more widely if it makes sense and can be supported.

How do I join?

For now, you can register your interest using the short form below. When the membership offer is ready, early contacts will be invited to see it first and help shape the launch.
